Our Veterinarians

Dr. Douglas A. Waines

Douglas Waines

Doug graduated with honours from the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph in 1974 and practiced the next 3 years in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He returned to his hometown in 1977 and established Borderview Veterinary Hospital and is the owner/director. He is an active member in various local, provincial, national, and international veterinary associations and continuing education programs, and holds special interest in veterinary endocrinology and ultrasonography. He has been a long time member of the Niagara Veterinary Medical Association, Buffalo Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Ontario Veterinary Medical Association, Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, the American Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology, and the Niagara Veterinary Emergency Clinic. Downhill skiing, kayaking and motorcycle touring (yes, his bike is his other passion) are leisure activities that he and his wife, Marie, share together. Doug and Marie live in Fort Erie and have 2 children - Barbara and Stephen (both currently attending university); 2 Basenji dogs - Peaches and Barkley; and 2 cats - Mumphy and Gibby (pictured above).

Dr. Victoria A. Busche

Victoria Busche

Viki was born in Nova Scotia and graduated from Acadia University, Wolfville, N.S. with a B.Sc. (Hon) in Biology in 1976 before pursuing a career in veterinary medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College. Upon graduation in 1981, she joined Borderview Veterinary Hospital as a full time veterinarian and has been an integral part of the hospital for the past 22+ years. Viki is an active member of the local, provincial, national and international veterinary associations and regularly attends continuing education seminars sponsored by the Buffalo Academy of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys gardening and bicycling in her spare time and is a 20-year member of the Zonta Club of Fort Erie, a professional and business women’s association.

Dr. Sandra Waller

Sandra Waller

Sandra was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario and grew up on a busy farm in Chippewa, Ontario. She graduated from Brock University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Education. She taught elementary school French for two years in Fort Erie before deciding to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine. Sandra graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995 and has practiced at Borderview Veterinary Hospital ever since. Sandra also serves as a veterinary instructor with the Livestock Medicines Education Program, educating farmers about the use of livestock medicines. She attends the continuing education programs of the Buffalo Academy of Veterinary Medicine and keeps up to date through provincial and international veterinary memberships. Sandra and her husband, Keith and two daughters live in Niagara Falls. Her pets include a Haflinger horse, Shetland pony, and two geriatric rabbits. She enjoys singing in her church choir, quilting, and horseback riding.

 

Dr. Johnathan McTaggart

Johnathan and Mook

Johnathan was raised in Niagara Falls and St. Catharines, Ontario. He graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science) from the University of Guelph in 1996, and earned his DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2000. Johnathan enjoys family time with his wife, Jennifer, their two children. They share their home with one cat (Fred) and one dog (a lovable, but not-too-bright Labrador Retriever named Bannock, but almost universally referred to as "Mook"). He regularly attends the continuing education programs of the Buffalo Academy of Veterinary Medicine. He is a member of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Dental Society. He has practiced at Borderview Veterinary Hospital since 2004 and has a professional interest in veterinary dentistry.
