Diagnostic Imaging: X-Ray and UltrasoundThe ability to perform X-rays and ultrasound on-site enables us to “see” into our patients without invasion or pain. These tests can give us important information about the size and shape of organs with a clearer perspective of function when combined with blood profile studies. They are also an important tool in screening for suspected cancer and/or metastasis (tumor spread). A special lead lined room is dedicated solely for the purpose of X-rays. The maintenance and operation of this area is monitored by both provincial and federal government agencies to ensure workplace safety. The films generated become part of your pet’s medical record and are stored for future reference. Ultrasound nicely compliments x-rays to provide information about various internal organ architecture- both providing independent and unique information about internal anatomy. The difference in the mechanics and physics between X-rays and ultrasound compliments each other’s weaknesses. For example, X-rays like to deal with variations in contrast where air and bone are X-ray friendly and free fluid will interfere with clarity. Ultrasound technology. On the other hand, likes to echo through fluid with clarity but cannot deal with bone or gas. These services strengthen our ability to provide significant diagnostic information.
